University Help and University Ranking

 US COLLEGES LIST

The first thing to do, if you haven't done so already, is to write to the universities  you wish to study in and ask them to send you their information brochure. By the time you write your GRE, you must have short-listed the 10 or so universities you are going to apply to. Write to those universities and ask them for the application form and the graduate catalogue.

Choosing a University!

This by far is one of the most important and time-consuming processes a student has to encounter. He or she has to consider several actors before making this single most important decision.

They have to consider factors such as:

  • Tuition Costs?

  • Which university has what research?

  • University GRE, TOEFL, GMAT requirements

  • What is the funding scenario?

  • Environment,etc.

Most of these factors are important because a lot of international students look for funding in terms of a Research, Teaching and Graduate assistantships. There are thousands of universities located all around the United States each have their unique requirements and conditions for admissions.

You will have to pick out the university that best suits your abilities and interests.

In higher education, college and university rankings are listings of educational institutions in an order determined by any combination of factors. Rankings can be based on subjectively perceived "quality," on some combination of empirical statistics, or on surveys of educators, scholars, students, prospective students, or others. Such rankings are often consulted by prospective students as they choose which schools they will apply to or which school they will attend. Among college and university rankings, there are rankings of undergraduate and graduate programs. Rankings are conducted by magazines and newspapers and in some instances by academic practitioners. For details on ranking of law programs, see Law School Rankings.

Rankings vary significantly from country to country. A Cornell University study found that the rankings in the United States significantly affected colleges' applications and admissions. In the United Kingdom, several newspapers publish league tables which rank universities. GranSeveral organizations provide worldwide rankings, including:
